Tuomas A. Rajala

Tervehdys! My name is Tuomas Rajala, and I live in Helsinki, Finland. I work as a senior scientist in the applied statistics group at the Natural Resources Institute Finland, aka Luke. Our group members provide data analysis expertise for a wide range of projects related to studying, inventorying and monitoring Finnish natural resources. My interests are in spatial and Bayesian statistics.

I have a background in probability mathematics (MPhil) and spatial point process statistics (PhD). Before joining the applied statistics team at Luke, I conducted post-doctoral research first in the (then) Machine Learning and Bioinformatics group at Aalto University, then in the Mathematical Statistics group of Chalmers & University of Gothenburg (in projects of Aila Särkkä and others), and finally at the Department of Statistical Science of University College London in projects of Sofia Olhede and David Murrell.

In addition to solving applied statistics problems at Luke, I write papers about spatial point processes and teach R courses. I am also available for hire as a private consultant.
